Easy Food Ideas for kids at home during the summer

Cutting board with grilled bread, cucumbers and tomatoes

When the kids are at home for the summer it feels like they are little baby birds in a nest constantly cheeping to be fed!

No sooner are you done with breakfast and cleaned up they are asking you what is for lunch.

And do your kids want something very different when they are home? Usually I pack them a sandwich or protein filled salad, fruit and cheese and crackers.

I guess it’s 9 months of eating the same thing that summer seems so exciting to eat different food at home!

Here is a roundup of my most favorite recipes to feed your kids that are different, perfect for summer but most importantly, EASY!

Ice Pops

These are so awesome and quick to make, taste delish and are secretly super healthy. The kids won’t know the difference. So much better than gross store bought ice pops.

Grilled Cheese

Grilled Cheese is everyone’s favorite and a perfect summertime lunch.

My kids just LOVE this combo, it’s so simple and delish.

One of the easiest herbs to keep on your windowsill is Basil, it’s kind of hard to kill. And it’s so great to have some fresh leaves to put on sandwiches.

Mini Crescent Dogs or if you want to be posh, Pigs in Blankets

This is such an easy recipe and kids just hoover these up for lunch.

I even make them for grown up parties and serve them with a side of “posh” mustard.

Mediterranean Orzo Salad

This is such an easy and delicious salad to make.

Orzo pasta is divine, it’s pasta that kind of looks like rice but cooks in a fraction of the time.

BLT Sandwiches

Who doesn’t love an amazing BLT.

But they can be a bit of a palaver to make so I like to make sure I have enough supplies for at least two days of sandwiches.

Healthy Zucchini Muffins

I make these at least once a week. They are packed full of zucchini and the maple syrup in them makes them super delish.

I grate the zucchini in my food processor so it takes me less than a minute. Hand grating take for-evah and no one has time for that.

This recipe makes 12 so you can keep them for a few days and it’s the most lovely thing to have lunch already made and done.

They are also perfect for picnics.
